web page problem in Activations Forum

[ Edited ]

JHutch, I think there's a formatting problem in the Activations forum. In this forum only, the column on the left lies on top of the left edge of the thread list. No other forum does this.

The problem seems to stem from the width of the sidebar in Firefox 3.5.3.  This first image shows a wide sidebar, and the column of forum links lies on top of the message thread tree

This next image is still the activations forum, but with a narrow Firefox sidebar.  Note the Forums links are no longer covering the message threads

For comparison, this is a different forum, with a wide Firefox sidebar.  This forum does not have the problem that the Activations forum has:

This doesn't happen in Internet Explorer 8, just Firefox, and just in the Activations forum.

Re: web page problem in Activations Forum

for the record, I'e seen this from time to time.

I'm using XP SP2, & IE8, and it can crop up in all forums (for me that is).

Re: web page problem in Activations Forum

While NorwichUK is right that this can happen anywhere, TJ was also right that there was something different about the activations forums.  Or in this case, one of the posts in the activations forums.

Further down there list you'll see the following post:

request new account for 'http://www.software.rockwell.com/extranet ' [URL]

This particular post, as you can see, if fairly long with no spaces.  The system will try to word wrap titles if it can, but it couldn't figure out how to one this one (and wrapping a hyperlink is usually a bad idea). You'll probably notice it is wrapped NOW, though.  That's because I edited the thread title and added some spaces after the periods.

PS: TJ, we won't discuss how if you just closed your history tab in Firefox, the whole problem would have disappeared for you ...  :smileywink:

Re: web page problem in Activations Forum

JHutch, the problem arose because I keep my bookmarks sidebar open.  Since I had no desire to air my bookmark laundry, opening the history sidebar seemed the better choice to show.

Thanks for fixing the problem though.
